The idea

City Bike Finder shows you where the bikes are right now. Open the app and you get a live map of your city’s bike-share stations. Each station shows how many bikes are available and how many docks are free, so you know where to pick one up and where you can return it before you start walking.

Features

  • Live counts of available bikes and free docks at every station, colour-coded so you can see at a glance where bikes are plentiful, scarce or gone
  • Station details with the time the data was last updated
  • Search stations by name or address
  • E-bikes: one tap switches the map to e-bike counts, in cities whose system reports them
  • My location centres the map on you and switches to the nearest city automatically
  • Favourites: star the cities you use so they stay at the top of the list
  • No account, no ads, and light and dark appearance

How I built it

The app is built in Flutter on top of the open CityBikes API, which collects live station data from bike-share networks around the world. The same codebase runs as an iOS app and as a web app at citybikefinder.app, so it works in any browser too.

City Bike Finder shows availability only; you rent and unlock bikes through your local operator. It isn’t affiliated with any bike-share operator.

Available for iPhone and iPad, and on the web. An Android version isn’t out yet.
