Modbus to CAN Bus Configuration Tool
A desktop tool for reconfiguring Equinor's subsea electric actuators over Modbus TCP/IP and EtherNet/IP.

The problem
As part of its sustainability push, Equinor is testing electric actuators on new oil fields. They need less infrastructure and can be moved between valves by an ROV, so one actuator can serve several rarely used valves. But every move means the actuator has to be reconfigured with a new ID and parameters for the valve it is now operating.
What I built
An application that interfaces with CAN bus devices through the subsea control module, sending CAN bus commands over Modbus TCP/IP or EtherNet/IP. Engineers get a clear desktop UI instead of raw protocol commands.
- Protocol bridge from Modbus and EtherNet/IP down to CAN bus.
- Guided configuration so the right valve gets the right ID every time.
- Hardware integration tested against real subsea control modules, soldering iron included.
